El Paso Alumnae Panhellenic Association

The El Paso Alumnae Panhellenic was founded in 1916, by a group of Alumnae from several National Conference sororities. These ladies were interested in promoting the Greek system among El Paso’s young women going to colleges throughout The United States.  This was twenty-two years before national sororities were even on the UTEP campus (then Texas College of Mines and Metallurgy).  As the years went by the El Paso Alumnae Panhellenic grew stronger and more active.

Our association has sponsored Sun Carnival Princesses and Maid of Cotton Festival contestants, as well as social events throughout the year for member and collegiate alike.  Scholastic awards have been given to active sorority collegiate members when finances have permitted since 1989.  An “All Greek Woman Award” is presented to a collegiate from the El Paso area attending and excelling at her college.  A special event is held every May to present these awards, to honor the new collegiate members of that year, and to install the new Panhellenic officers.  Sixteen of the twenty-six National Panhellenic Congress sororities are presently represented in the El Paso Panhellenic Association.
